Abstract

In existentialism, the existence of one thing is always in the companyofone or more other things.Thus, to give a correct idea or to avoid misunderstandingsof theuseof the predicate unggul as in terms like bibit unggul, sekolahunggulan, produk unggulan pendidikan, and others, it is morallyimperative for the usersof such terms to provide the terms with theircontexts to determine whether unggul means 'prime', 'superior','competitive', or any other. Instancesof such contexts can be ofappearance or performance, of a long or short term, of currentobjectives or future goals, of individuals or the community, ofindividual or social needs, of national or international needs, ofinclusive or exclusive purposes, and others. Even now, the writer isstillof the belief that the usage of those aforementioned terms in thefieldof education in Indonesia is still more as jargon rather thanbasic concepts. Abstract

This article is about a research aimed at finding out the correlationbetween parents' educational level and elementary schoolchildren's pattern of healthy living in Depok, Sleman, DaerahIstimewa Yogyakarta.The research population consisted of 1.600 parents of 5th gradestudents from 56 state elementary schools in Depok, Sleman, DaerahIstimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). As the research sample, 300 parentsfrom 9 public elementary schools were selected by usingproportional random sampling.The result of a descriptive analysis reveals that 86.3% ofelementary school children's pattern of healthy living in Depok,Sleman, DIY is categorized good and 42.7% of their fathers and38.3% of their mothers are senior high school graduates. The resultof a correlation analysis reveals a significant correlation betweenparents' educational level and state elementary school children'spattern of healthy living in Depok, Sleman, DIY.

Abstract

Plyometrics is about a form of burst-of-power trammg withcharacteristic usageof very strong and quick muscle contractionsand also represents isometric, eccentric, and isotonic trainingcombinations. The trainingof plyometrics is with knee-tuck jumpmodification andof side-front-back jump combination models. Aresearch this article is about is aimed at proving that both practicemodels above can improve leg power and that plyometric practice isable to have great influences on leg power improvement.The populationof the research study consists of male-athletestudentsof the volleyball school of the Sport Science Faculty, StateUniversityof Yogyakarta. The sample used consisted of 48students/athletes selected with an intake technique by meansofpurposive sampling. The trainees were divided into similar threegroups: the first group was treated with the knee-tuck jumpmodification, the second group was treated with side-front-backjump combination, and the third group was givenno specifictreatmentto function as a control group. Before and after thetreatments, a vertical jump test was administered. A normality teston the data showed that the data distribution was normal and ahomogeneity test on the three groups showed that they werehomogeneous. From an Anova test on two treatments with a controlgroup, significant differences were found.The resultsof data analysis indicate that plyometric knee-tuckjump modification and side-front-backjump combination training bymeansof the program for the research study is proven to haveinfluences on the increaseof leg muscle power of students/athlete of the volleyball school. The side-front-back jump combinationmodel is more influential than the knee-tuck jump modificationmodel.

Abstract

This article concerns a research intended to overcome students' inability in doing a process-skills test by implementing problem-based instruction (PBI). The descriptieve indicators of the research were successful learning of syntax via PBI (as an element of the process dimension) and the student's score in implementing cognitive process skills (as an element of the product dimension). The research was therefore a classrtoom action reseacrch (CAR) and it as conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of the following steps.: Planing the action, implementing the action, observation, and reflection. The results of the research indicattd tha (1) the implementation of the problem-based instruction could improve students' learning activities throughout the three cycles and (2) the implementation of the problem-based instruction could overcome students inability in doing the process-skills test.

JA....,The indicate that the views held RichardRorty's pragmatic philosophy on epistemology (about knowledgeand truth) are as follows. (1) According to Rorty, knowledge is notto be seen as a matter obtaining true reality or of reflecting naturebut acts in course of masteringa matter of dialogues. Truth is not to be interpreted asconformity between statement and reality (its correspondence tois it to interpreted as conformity between(its correspondence to thought); rather, it is to beas whenever something is good for us, webelieve in it. In this case, Rorty assumes the view of the relativity oftruth. According to him, if we wish to find justification of truth, weshould seek it society by conducting dialogues, which are to bereferred to as social justification or dialogical justification.

Abstract

This article concerns a reposItIOn study on the KKN-PPLprogram conducted in the developmentof a dynamic university inrelation to community needs, which had three important objectives,(1) to gain information of the effectiveness of the KKN-PPLprogram in relation to the university curriculum implementation, (2)to gain informationof resistance occurring during theimplementation of the KKN-PPL integrated program, and (3) todescribe stakeholders' perceptions of information about the KKN­PPL program hosted by the State Universityof Yogyakarta.The study was a policy research, in which several factorssupporting or resisting an effective implementation of the KKN-PPLwere analyzed and described intensively by using a descriptiveexploratory method to discover patternsof theory based on a set ofdata scores.The study on the repositioning of the KKN-PPL program in thedevelopmentof a dynamic university in relation to community needsproduces three important recommendations. Firstly, it is possiblethat the KKN-PPL program is to be conducted separatelyin order toobtain its specific objectives, the KKN program, essentially aprogram to make students learn from experiencein doing publicservice for the community, to be specifically for students with non­teacher majors and PPL, essentially a programof field teachingpractice, to be for students majoring in teaching. The management ofthe KKN program used to be essentially by LPM, a public serviceinstitution in the university, and the administration ofPPL used to beessentially by UPPL, a university unit managing students' field teaching practice. Therefore, secondly, the manager of the KKNprogram and thatof the program of PPL is to be returned to itsformer function. This recommendation is alignedto a historicalaspectof conducting the KKN program within a three-monthduration on location. Thirdly, alternatively, the integrated KKN-PPLprogram isto be continually handled at UNY by enhancing itsmechanism system into a more efficient and effective one.

Abstract

This article is about a classroom action research concerned withthe research problemof whether learners' participation in Class XIIPA 2 at State Senior High School 1, Jetis, Bantul, Yogyakarta, inthe civics education class could be improved with the inquirylearning model based on the conceptof Contextual Teaching andLearning (CTL). The research was intended to improve the learners'participation and to describe their learning achievement in the civicseducation class employing the inquiry learning model based onCTL.The classroom action research was carried out through aprocedure consistingof the following steps: (l) action planning toprepare for the research and for conventional learning performance;(2) action implementation in two cycles; (3) observation,in whichany phenomenon taking place during the implementationof thestudy was observed and recorded; and (4) action evaluation andreflection, in which the weaknesses, insufficiencies, difficulties, andefficacies in improving students' participation were identified. Thesubjectsof this research were students of Class XI IPA 2 at StateSenior High School1, Jetis, Bantul, Yogyakarta.The research results revealed the following findings: (1) with theinquiry learning model based on CTL, students' participation in thecivics education class couldbe improved from the activeparticipationof 15 students (39%) in cycle 1 to that of 33 students(87%) in cycle 2 and (2) students' learning achievement in the civics education class could be improved from the positiveachievementof 17 students (45 %) in cycle 1 to that of 37 students(970/0) in cycle 2

Abstract

his research was focused on the leadership style of thehead-master of State Secondary School 2 Cilacap, the degree of thehead-master ability in doing the function as a manager, educator,and leader, as well as the leadership effectiveness.This research used qualitative-naturalistic method.research subject consistedof school personnel of State SecondarySchool 2 Cilacap. The data was collected using interview technique,observation, and documentation. The data validity was achievedwith external and internal criticism and triangulation method. Thedata analysis technique was performed using Miles and Hubermanmodel, done in four interactive steps: data collection, data reduction,data display, and conclusion.The research result can be reported as follows :1) the head­masterof State Secondary School 2 Cilacap tends to adoptparticipative leadership style; 2.a) Concerning level of ability, indoing his function as a manager, it can be concluded that themanagerial functions (planning, organizing and controlling) havebeen done effectively. But on the staffing side, especially on studentrecruitment planning improvement is still seriously needed; b) Thehead - master has done his function as a leader. c) Furthermore, thehead-master has done supervision functionas a leader; d) the head ­master has shown good behaviour and can be a role model; 3) Thehead-master leadership effectiveness has been achieved by teacher:empowerment in the improvementof instructional process asindicated by graduates quality improvement.

Abstract

Secondary school graduates need vocational training institutionsbecauseof the socioeconomic benefits they will get after graduatingfrom the institutions. They will get more benefits from theinstitutionsif the management of the institutions is decentralisticallyimproved. The aimof a research this article is about was identifyingthe need to improve the vocational training institutions which aredecentralistically managed. The resultof the research can be used todetermine a strategy to develop and to certify vocational traininginstitutions. The resultofthe research shows that vocational traininginstitutions, even with the decreasing numbersof their students, arestill needed by society. These institutions also give benefits as unitsof non-formal education offering various training programs.Although generally their organization is small in scale, theirautonomy is great. The efficiency and effectivenessof their use ofthe infrastructure is good. Some of the institutions are tied to thenational curriculum, their license to operate, the nationalexamination, graduation standards, and certifications.To developthe institutions, wider authority is needed to manage the institutionsdecentralistically, particularly in relation to aspectsof programdevelopment, the curriculum, their license, the national examination,graduate standards, and their authority to issue certificates based onthe accreditationof the institutions.
